Bye Bye Birdie . . . For Now

The Bloodhorse is reporting that betting on Birdbird in the Derby Future Pools has been suspended. Birdbird s currently seventh on the graded earnings list. As late as this week Birdbird's connections were considering a return to the Derby Trail with a start in the Blue Grass stakes. After much thought they decided against it. Current plans call for Birdbird to return to competition in the Crown Royal American Turf on May 4th.

It's been a great thrill for me to follow Birdbird on the Derby trail and I look forward to seeing him on the turf this coming summer.

Nice to see the connections doing what is right by the horse...I think it's really going to work out well. Alot of great races out there later in the year. Can't wait to see you guys back in the Winner's Circle. Good luck to the entire Birdbird team.

John, u've done a great story here! Congratulations to the Bird team for putting this all out there. It was very educational for me, and also entertaining to see Bird at Delta Downs, and the other races, then at Palm Meadows, and through the Derby preps. Bird showed last year that he's a great horse, and worthy of this attention. I will follow his continuing development as a racehorse with interest.

Thanks very much, It's been a unique privilege for me and I want to thank Larry Green and everybody associated with Birdbird for being so generous with their time.

You did a great job with this blog, and I think every Derby contender and/or stakes horse should have one.

Are the pink margin borders to remind us of the interior of The FairGrounds?

Thanks for making "Bird" a household "word" around here.I hope he'll be back on track soon!

John,

Sorry that Birdbirdistheword didn't make the Derby cut. However, it is encouraging to see Team Bird make best choice for horse.

Bird should do well in 7- to 8-1/2 furlong races. His pedigree and 2YO grass wins suggest that he will do well.

Let dream big -- Birdbird on the BC Mile trail! Again, great work on the blog & I enjoyed meeting you and Bird connections at Fair Grounds. I have become regular reader on your Not to the Swift blog now.

I just wanted to take this oportunity to personnaly thank all of BirdBirds fans and a special thanks to John for his excellent coverage of our special horse. Please don't give up on this talented colt. We just feel that we need to back off a bit and let him grow into himself. Our first and foremost thoughts are for BirdBirds health and so we feel that we need to back off for a bit for the horses sake. We believe that he will give us several more wins but with time. Again thanks to all of you. Larry Green
